What's going on with Mambo? (9003 hits) |
Written by Thomas Kahl Maybe you have read the news about mambo and the decision of the core-development-team to leave the "Mambo Foundation". I don't want to repeat the whole discussion here. You can read the statements and the discussion at opensourcematters.com, mambofoundation.com and the forums on opensourcematters.com and mamboserver.com.
Opensourcematters.com is the official domain of the core team, where they release information about what they plan to do. It's obvious, that the split is through. What does that mean for mambo, the users and planned projects?
That's what we think and what we expect:
- there will be a fork (that means, that there will be more than one mambo version in the future)
- we don't know at all, what miro plans to do
- we know, that we will not join the mambo-foundation
- we know, that we will support the next release of the core-team - this is the best way to continue, what mambo became today. We know, what the core team did for mambo yet and show our faith to an ongoing development.
- if there is a fork, there will be a new name for the core-team's mambo-version, because miro holds the rights on the name "mambo" for a CMS
- we will help the core-team with all we can do if they need support.
Please be patient and wait for news on that. We are absolutely sure, that mambo-users will not have disadvantages from this. New releases will come and "the CMS formerly known as mambo" will become still better. (...but what shall i do with the domain "mamboexpert.com" then???)
